Australian registration
Since 1 July 2010, a new national registration scheme for nurses and midwives has been operating across Australia.
It means you no longer have to register for each State.
Like the NMC in the UK, your Australian registration will now be valid in the whole country.
To register to practice in Australia, please visit the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and select your Health profession to read about the process.
Their website is: http://www.ahpra.gov.au/en.aspx
If you do get your registration, please remember you will still need to meet the immigration requirements.
To know more about Visa applications and the full process, please visit:

You should also be aware that Nurses now require to have their skills assessed prior to applying for an Employer nominated visa.
Before or after the Australian National registration, you will have to apply for the skills assessment which is completed through the ANMC.
It assesses nursing skills for the Immigration department (it is a separate body to the AHPRA).
The website is: http://www.anmc.org.au/
There are two different fee structures, one for post AHPRA registration and one for pre AHPRA registration - The process can take around 10-12 weeks.
If applicants are applying under the Employer Nomination Scheme, they must have been nominated by an Australian employer to fill a position in an occupation that appears in the ENSOL.
See: ENSOL (237KB PDF file)
Note: Applicants must obtain this skills assessment before they lodge their visa application and they must provide it to the department at the time they lodge their visa application.
