A reputable NHS Trust in Birmingham City in the West Midlands is seeking experienced Nurses to work in Theatre positions. The Trust leads with advances in technology, service development and is also the Major Trauma Centre for the area and accepts a lot of critical care admission for the region’s Air Ambulance.
Birmingham is England’s second city and one of the largest cities in Europe. This vibrant and dynamic city offers an excellent alternative to London.
What do I need to know about the Operating Theatres at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham?
Here at QEHB we have 42 operating theatres and procedure rooms that cater for multiple specialities. As we are a Major Trauma Centre we have a very high level of emergencies within our operating theatres on a daily basis.
Our theatres are spread across the Queen Elizabeth Medical Centre site. We have 23 operating theatres in our Main Suite; 7 in our Ambulatory Theatre Suite; 2 in our Ophthalmic Theatre Suite; 2 procedure rooms within our Ambulatory Care Unit; 4 theatres within our Wellcome Building in QEH; and a further 4 theatres within the East Block of QEH. In addition to this there are plans for future expansion. We cover a range of specialties including; emergencies, vascular, upper and lower GI, renal, urology, cardiac, trauma and orthopaedics, liver, neuro, maxfac, burns, ENT, hands, plastics, spinal and ophthalmics.
We have 5 recovery rooms located on the Queen Elizabeth Medical Centre site, with a large workforce who cares for a range of post operative cases from minor/local anaesthetic cases to major ITU cases. Recovery staff build advanced airway management skills, pain management skills and many more - our recovery areas are very similar to that of an ITU.
Each of our operating theatres has an effective learning environment, to enable all staff to continue to build and develop highly skilled techniques as scrub practitioners. This enables staff to scrub for elective, emergency and transplantation procedures.
